All About IPMAT 2027: Exams, Colleges, Admission Process and Paper Pattern
IPMAT is not one common exam for every IIM. IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak conduct different aptitude tests. JIPMAT is a third exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Understand IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT, including their colleges, paper patterns, admission processes and key differences for 2027 aspirants.
IPMAT is one of the main routes through which students can enter selected IIM programmes directly after Class 12. But IPMAT is not one common examination accepted by every IIM.
There are three important entrance tests that an IPMAT aspirant should understand:
- IPM Aptitude Test conducted by IIM Indore
- IPM Aptitude Test conducted by IIM Rohtak
- JIPMAT conducted by the National Testing Agency
Each examination has a different paper pattern, list of participating colleges and admission process.
Important update for 2027 aspirants: The official IPMAT and JIPMAT 2027 notifications have not yet been released. The examination patterns and admission details below are based on the latest completed 2026 admission cycle. Colleges may change their eligibility rules, paper patterns or selection processes for 2027.
What Is IPMAT?
IPMAT commonly refers to the aptitude tests conducted by IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak for admission to undergraduate and five-year integrated management programmes.
However, these are two separate examinations.
IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak have different application forms, paper patterns, participating colleges and selection processes. Registering for one does not automatically register you for the other.
What Is JIPMAT?
JIPMAT stands for Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test.
It is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to the five-year Integrated Programme in Management offered by:
- IIM Jammu
- IIM Bodh Gaya
JIPMAT is separate from both IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak.
IPMAT vs JIPMAT: Which Exam Opens Which Colleges?
| Examination | Main programmes using the 2026 score | What students should remember |
|---|---|---|
| IPM AT by IIM Indore | IIM Indore IPM and programmes offered by IIM Ranchi, IIM Shillong, IIM Amritsar, IIM Sirmaur and IIM Sambalpur | Most colleges require a separate application in addition to the IIM Indore examination form. |
| IPM AT by IIM Rohtak | Five-year IPM at IIM Rohtak | This is a separate examination and application process. |
| JIPMAT by NTA | Five-year IPM at IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya | Students take one examination, but the two IIMs can use different admission policies and cut-offs. |
IIM Indore also publishes a list of other institutions using the IPM AT score. In the 2026 cycle, this included institutions such as IIFT, Nirma University, NALSAR, Krea University and others.
Score acceptance does not mean that every college offers the same degree, fee structure, campus experience or admission process. Students should check each college separately before applying.

IPMAT 2027 Admission Process
The exact process varies between colleges, but students can understand it in six basic steps.
1. Check the eligibility criteria
Check the eligibility requirements of every college you want to target.
Do not assume that qualifying for the entrance examination automatically makes you eligible for every participating college. Requirements related to age, Class 10 and 12 marks, passing year and Mathematics can differ.
2. Register for the examinations
Depending on your target colleges, register separately for:
- IPMAT Indore
- IPMAT Rohtak
- JIPMAT
One application does not cover all three examinations.
3. Complete separate college applications
Several colleges accepting the IPMAT Indore score require their own application form.
For example, applying for IPMAT Indore does not automatically submit your application to every IIM that uses the score.
4. Take the aptitude test
Prepare for the common foundations of:
- Quantitative Aptitude
- Verbal Ability
- Reading Comprehension
- Logical Reasoning
- Data Interpretation
You must also practise the unique paper format of each examination.
5. Complete the interview or merit-list process
IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak and several other institutes use a Personal Interview as part of their selection process.
JIPMAT colleges may prepare their merit lists using the JIPMAT score and academic profile without conducting a Personal Interview. Always check that year's official admission policy.
6. Compare your final offers
Do not compare colleges only by the IIM name.
Before accepting an offer, check:
- Programme structure
- Degree awarded
- Exit options
- Total fees
- Education-loan cost
- Campus experience
- Placement evidence
- Continuation rules for the MBA years
Which IPMAT Exams Should You Take?
If you are eligible and want the widest possible set of options, taking all three examinations can be useful.
Prioritise IPMAT Indore if:
- You are comfortable with higher-level Quantitative Aptitude.
- You can manage strict sectional timers.
- You are targeting IIM Indore and other colleges using its score.
- You are comfortable with short-answer questions.
Add IPMAT Rohtak if:
- Logical Reasoning is one of your stronger areas.
- You perform well in speed-based examinations.
- You want to target IIM Rohtak separately.
Add JIPMAT if:
- You are targeting IIM Jammu or IIM Bodh Gaya.
- You are comfortable with Quantitative Aptitude, DILR and VARC.
- You prefer having flexible overall time instead of separate sectional timers.
Students who studied Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Classes 11 and 12 may also be eligible for programmes such as the IIM Shillong and IIM Amritsar IPM programmes, subject to the 2027 rules.
The Biggest Preparation Mistake
A common mistake is preparing for IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT as if they have three completely unrelated syllabi.
Most of their Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability foundations overlap.
Start by building one strong base in:
- Arithmetic
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Number System
- Vocabulary
- Grammar
- Reading Comprehension
- Logical Reasoning
- Data Interpretation
After building the foundation, practise the format unique to each examination:
- Short-answer questions and sectional timers for IPMAT Indore
- Logical Reasoning and speed for IPMAT Rohtak
- DILR and flexible time management for JIPMAT
This approach saves time and prevents you from studying the same topic repeatedly.
Can a Non-Maths Student Take IPMAT?
Yes, non-Maths students can apply to several IPM programmes, including IIM Indore, subject to that year's eligibility conditions.
However, some programmes have specific Mathematics requirements. In the 2026 cycle, IIM Shillong required Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in both Classes 11 and 12, while IIM Amritsar required it as a compulsory Class 12 subject.
Always check the individual college's 2027 eligibility policy before applying.
How Setwise Can Help
Learning a chapter is only the first step. Students also need enough structured practice to become comfortable with different question types and examination formats.
Setwise helps IPMAT aspirants practise topic by topic through curated question sets across Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability and LRDI.
Instead of searching through random PDFs or repeatedly studying the same chapter, students can practise a topic, identify difficult questions, bookmark them and return to them during revision.
Finished learning a topic? Now practise it Setwise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is IPMAT only for IIM Indore?
No. IIM Indore conducts one IPM Aptitude Test, but its score is used by several IIM and non-IIM programmes. Most participating institutes require separate applications.
Are IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak the same exam?
No. They are conducted separately and have different application forms, examination patterns and admission processes.
Is JIPMAT easier than IPMAT?
JIPMAT usually tests Mathematics closer to the Class 10 level, but that does not make selection easy. Competition, speed, accuracy and cut-offs still make it a challenging examination.
Is the IPMAT 2027 pattern officially confirmed?
No. The official 2027 notifications have not yet been released. Students can begin preparation using the 2026 structure but should check the official notification when it becomes available.
Should I apply for all three exams?
If you are eligible and want more college options, applying for IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak and JIPMAT can be a sensible strategy.
